SIRC at Jorpati, Kathmandu is the only distributor of WorldMade
Wheelchairs in Nepal. Based on the particular needs of SCI patients
and the constraints of the terrain, Motivation, a UK charity,
modified the WM wheelchair which is assembled according to the
particular size and measurement of the individual, Since 2006
Motivation and SIRC are working in partnership to provide a
professional wheelchair service network in Nepal, delivered
by trained SIRC clinical and technical staff.
The service delivery process includes
• Identification of potential clients
• Registration of the patients
• Assessment of the patients size and life style needs
• Prescription and ordering of the wheelchair
• Assembly, fitting and checking to ensure that client's
needs are met
• Final quality check
• The client is then given mobility and maintenance training
by the peer group trainers after which the wheelchair is delivered
to the clients.
This service is currently provided to SCI patients at SIRC.
Although it is early days, SIRC is having success in establishing
a network/ link up with other local organizations working on
disability or any other related issues.
