Over the years, SIRC has benefited greatly from the skills and enthusiasm
of volunteer workers from Nepal and overseas. The relationship has been
mutual. Volunteers coming to SIRC have enjoyed and benefited from the
volunteering.
Volunteers work in any department at SIRC . Usually, a volunteer will
have special interests and use one's initiative is very important. For
prospective short-term volunteers while they need to be very experienced,
it should be stressed that there are very many mundane tasks to be done
at SIRC. The joy of working at SIRC comes not from the task itself,
but rather, from the reason for why.
One or two days a week there are sports activities for patients in the
afternoon. This is popular among volunteers who help organising different
games, and often participate themselves.
People choose to volunteer for different reasons:-
- Those who often come to work at their chosen profession e.g. physiotherapists
- Those with special expertise who can underpin SIRC’s development
programme
- Those who come to further knowledge and experience
While SIRC is developing its 5-year volunteer programme with specific
opportunities which will be published, SIRC welcomes trained physiotherapists,
occupational therapists, social service consultants and health / small
business advisors to work at SIRC, IT professional, management consultants,
fundraising consultants, volunteers with good English writing skills
preferably with two years' post graduate experience.
SIRC offers those seeking placements as part of an educational training
programme, the opportunity to volunteer to extend knowledge and experience
while making a contribution to fighting poverty.
