What do we do SIRC Rehabilitation Social Services

Social Service

SIRC adopt an integrated approach which is based on initial assessment of the patient, which recognizes economic status, suitable vocational training and psychosocial needs.

A rehabilitation program assists the patient in recognizing what skills and training he will need, a trained counselor addresses physiological needs, regular group counseling sessions, mediated by social services, help patients interrelate with each other and motivate them to cope better with daily activities. The psychosocial improvement of the patients is closely monitored; feedback is provided to the other departments who may modify the treatment plans.

To ensure that SIRC does provide an effective service, monitoring patients after return to the home environment is essential. Despite difficulties reaching people, especially in the more remote areas, all patients are posted a follow up questionnaire which they are encouraged to complete, with help if literacy is a problem. Based on patient feedback, a decision is taken on the need for a home visit by the Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT). Visits which are scheduled are led by social services and include all relevant therapists. SIRC aim is to link seamlessly with other organizations providing community based rehabilitation and health services. This will take time due to the infrastructure in Nepal.
