SIRC commenced its activities by following a basic model
of spinal injury management. The rehabilitation model adopted aims to
be cost effective and appropriate to patients' needs, utilizes the patient’s
family as care givers and pays much attention to patient and family
health education. Following a review in 2006, from SIRC recognizes the
need to develop the model to.
•improve service efficiency and quality of care to patients.
• further develop robust scalable services.
• move from rented accommodation, not ideal for the provision of rehabilitation
services to adults, to a purpose-built centre by mid-2008.
• build technical and organizational capacity through staff development,
training, recruitment and an effective volunteer program to treat up
to 63 patients by 2009.
• improve monitoring, feedback and reporting for donors and as input to
proposals.
• collect data on the incidence, treatment and outcomes for further research.
• increase awareness of poverty and spinal injury in Nepal, the work and
success of SIRC.
• implement a structured, managed fund raising program for capital and
on-going revenues.
