Beneficiaries and the service

SIRC patients typically stay at the centre for an average of three to six months, receiving a range of services to enable them to manage their condition and begin to retake their place in society. SIRC's established vocational training programme for patients and family members help those who cannot resume previous employment. Efforts are made to establish successful reintegration into the community. A follow-up service assesses patients' psychological, physical and economic status to provide practical support and advice to the ex-patient. In this way SIRC aims to ensure that its programmes are appropriate and relevant. SIS also recognises the need to lobby support from the government of Nepal for more direct support for those who have suffered from spinal cord injuries (SCI), while encouraging SCI sufferers to fight for their rights.
